Superga, named after a prominent hill which forms an amphitheatre around the Italian city of Turin, was founded in 1911 by Walter Martiny. Just over a decade later they established their iconic style, the 2750, which was labelled "The Peoples Shoe of Italy". In 2011, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen took over as creative directors for Superga, bringing new materials and a fresh outlook on the classic style. Overall, Superga aims to "design and produce the highest quality footwear, in timeless classic styles for the entire family".
New Balance 501 camo pack now available in-store & online for men and women. In 1906 British immigrant William J. Riley started the New Balance Arch Support Company in the United States. This was the worlds first running shoe with a ripple sole as well as the first running shoe to come in varying widths. Today New Balance has partnerships with many sports leagues and teams. New Balance maintains a commitment to domestic manufacturing and has multiple factories around the United States as well as factories in Europe which cater to the European market.

Longtime gravitypope lover and Canadian author/screen writer/bloggerKelly Oxford landed a a The Coveteur feature recently - and throws down mention of our pre-gravitypope import shop Polly Magoo's, as well as our flavorite clogs from Bosabo!
"My girlfriend is the COO of gravitypope, and she recommended them. Once I had one pair I needed more. Perfect, with a little height and relatively inexpensive!" Kelly Oxford, The Coveteur
"One of the first famous people to follow me and retweet me was Roger Ebert. He’d retweet the dirtiest tweets I wrote, and was one of the very first people to contribute a letter in petition for my O1 work visa. This jacket was the jacket I wrote about in my book! I bought it in the 7th grade and it stars in the chapter “Fuck You Forever.” It’s some South American import that I got at Polly Magoo's (original gravitypope owner’s store)."Kelly Oxford, The Coveteur

Toronto Life stopped by our Toronto shop and whipped up a great feature on the new location. Great photos of our interior, as well as their favourite style picks from off our shelves!
Gravity Pope, a trend-focused shoe store much beloved in Western Canada, opened its first Toronto location on Friday at Queen and Ossington. Although the soaring two-level space has good-sized clothing sections for men and women, the main draw is the rows upon rows of shoes dominating the main floor. With a wide-ranging portfolio of brands—including a reasonably priced house label as well as Converse, Repetto, Camper, Cacharel and Marni—the footwear selection caters to everyone from the hipster set to fashion-conscious moms and dads and glamour girls looking for night-out heels.
In both Edmonton and Vancouver, Gravity Pope’s shoe and clothing boutiques are separate, but the size of the newly built Toronto space meant they could combine the two into what manager Jody Kirk thinks of as a “mini department store” (the menswear section is to the left of the shoes, while the larger women’s area is upstairs, via a staircase salvaged from a Buenos Aires theatre built in 1934). Unlike the shoes, the clothing has a tighter focus, with brands like Alexander Wang, Cedric Charlier, Comme des Garçons and Paul Smith, and is aimed mainly at trendier shoppers willing to pay for quality.
This week we hosted a grand opening party at our new gravitypope Toronto location! We're so glad to have had such an amazing turn out - everyone was in attendance from designers & media, to friends & family. Thank you for all the the support with our newest achievement! The future looks bright!

We recently took a trip to Burbank, CA to visit our good friend Rafi Balouzian. Back in 1996 Rafi had a concept to create architectural footwear that combined comfort with unique design - that concept became Cydwoq.
Upon visiting, Rafi took us through the step by step process every Cydwoq shoe goes through at their manufacturing facility in Burbank by their team of skilled artisans. Hand made, the vast process and craftsmanship but into every pair of quality leather footwear was extremely impressive from begining to finish.
We took a few images to document our visit at the factory within the step by step tour led by Rafi - which coincidentally resulted in realizing that the footwear currently being crafted, was our very own order!

TN29, Homage and Tracey Neuls product. Refreshments, snacks, and organic pie from Aphrodite's provided!
The past nine years have seen Tracey Neuls establishing herself as a vital force within contemporary design, more specifically footwear design. Since graduating from Cordwainers College, she has built a reputation for innovative yet idiosyncratic shoe making. Garnering a string of awards (including New Generation, Design Week Benchmark, and Royal Society of Arts), she continues season upon season to present mould-breaking collections – unique unto their own.
Each shoe bears the mark of a questioning mind, and an instinctive feel for shape and material – they challenge the conventionality of their surroundings. Her appreciation for the small things in life, those overlooked and often forgotten, are explored through technique and textile. More design, than fashion, Tracey’s shoes are unique classics in their own right.

'A child doesn’t listen to a fairy tale and scream, THAT COULD NOT HAPPEN! The same goes for this Native data entry job. What’s to doubt in this dreamy scavenge at a stopwatch pace? A mad shoemaker for sure underwent this lush trial by bizarre ordeal and stoically bore the high blood pressure of forgotten alchemists. All of this along with a drop of Pepto-Bismol to mingle with all the computer-electrical secrets of heaven and… Voila! The indomitable Fitzsimmons sure has been cannoned onto your lucky and happier than ever before foot.' - Native Shoes.

As lovers of not only fashion and footwear, we enjoy all aspects of design - with a particularly deep passion for furniture, interiors, and film. 'EAMES: The Architect and The Painter' a film narrated by James Franco depicts a delightfully candid view of the husband-and-wife-duo of Charles and Ray Eames that most certainly strikes a note of interest in us! Excited, we anxiously anticipate a viewing - releasing today at the IFC Center in New York City.
'The husband-and-wife team of Charles and Ray Eames are widely regarded as America's most important designers. Perhaps best remembered for their mid-century plywood and fiberglass furniture, the Eames Office also created a mind-bending variety of other products, from splints for wounded military during World War II, to photography, interiors, multi-media exhibits, graphics, games, films and toys. But their personal lives and influence on significant events in American life -- from the development of modernism, to the rise of the computer age -- has been less widely understood. Narrated by James Franco, Eames: The Architect and the Painter is the first film dedicated to these creative geniuses and their work.'
Hypebeast recently caught up with twin brothers Messrs Dexter and Byron Peart of WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie for an interview discussing the brand, and the market. As we've known the brothers for quite some time now through WANT Agency (providing North American retailers with top brands Acne, Filippa K, and Nudie to name a few...), we're quite in love and have been excited about the WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie minimalist, yet luxe designs since day one in 2006.
A great little peak into the designs behind the brand we love, below is the interview courtesy of Hypebeast with Messrs and Byron from WANT Les Essential de la Vie:
WANT Les Essentials always in stock and on heavy rotation, available at gravitypope Tailored Goods locations & online at gravitypope.com
WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie is…inspired by timeless, functional design classics. The brand was conceived out of a “want” for premium quality leather goods to house the “essential” personal and professional products that we use in our everyday lives.
Balancing style and modern functionality…is our daily challenge. We aim to create a balance between a traditional style and a modern compatibility. The brand’s core value, identified on each of its products by its ubiquitous gold & silver zipper, is to achieve unity through contrast.
Accessories are the key to…defining your own personal style. While originally adorned for functional roles in protecting oneself from the elements – hats, eyewear, shoes or bags – accessories now play a significantly complementary role in completing one’s wardrobe. Unlike fashion, accessories don’t require periodic rotation, and are more often than not meant to be worn or used everyday. With this in mind, we are keen to deliver accessories that serve in terms of personal utility and style.
Material and color selection for WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie…is focused on building products that last – not only over time, but also trend. Since the inception of WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie, we have found our inspirations in architecture and furniture design. We are constantly sourcing leather, organic cotton, and other natural materials in terms of feel, quality, sustainability and durability. Accordingly, we continually develop colors and textures that are often consistent with seasonal directions, yet are still elegant and timeless. Ultimately, we are making products that we anticipate our users will pass on from generation to generation.
The most difficult part of developing products…is delivering to the market a finished product that not only meets our expectations, but more importantly those of our consumers. For us, designing really original new products comes quite naturally. However, we have consistently followed Dieter Ram’s guiding principles that “Less is More.” We have taken great pride in being disciplined enough to use significant restraint in keeping the product offering limited to what we believe to be only the essential items that our users require for his or her daily commute.
The current focus on craftsmanship…great news for our industry…and all areas of consumer consumption for that matter. There has been so much focus over the past decade to deliver faster, cheaper, disposable products to the market. We aim to be part of the counter culture which is rooted in delivering quality products which are high on design and produced in reputable environments, at a fair price, and ultimately are built to last. Traveling is… a great luxury – whether for work or pleasure. There is no question that getting on a plane weekly, as we do, is taxing on the mind and body, but it’s tough for us to complain – recognizing that we are so fortunate to have the opportunity to wander the world, share original experiences with diverse people, and be inspired by new and traditional customs and cultures. Marketing strategy… is pretty simple – “Stay true to who you are.” We have always envisaged WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie as a solutions company, with our sole intention to continually develop products (and in the future, potentially services) that meet, and adapt to, the ever changing needs of the modern commuter. We feel that as long as we deliver on this promise, we will continue to build a dedicated community that consists of a narrow selection of the worlds’ most influential retail stockists, and traditional and new media channels, that will help us to share our story.
The perfect accessory or piece of luggage should be…timeless, functional and easy. It is pretty obvious that we too have been greatly inspired by Steve Jobs. The Apple brand revolutionized the meaning of luxury. We are devoted in contributing to a “new luxury” movement, which steers clear of excess, and instead proposes original and uncompromising, premium products that are democratic in appeal and accessible to all. 'Here is the latest film in our video series, “Product Testing”. It details the craftsmanship of company employees and the pride with which Red Wing products are built. It also illustrates the rigorous methods we use to ensure that component materials and finished products meet or exceed industry standards and as well as our own high standards for quality.' - Red Wing Show Company

'About a year ago Red Wing Shoes Amsterdam was invited to Red Wing, Minnesota to pay a visit to the Red Wing Shoe factory and tannery. Our mission: to discover first hand the deepest secrets of the American, old school production process. The factory is home to a hospitable team of employees, most of whom have worked at the Red Wing factory for nearly 30 years. All the craftsmen and -women ply their own particular craft on the old machinery. Some of the Red Wing machines were patented in 1893 and have, to this very day, not been replaced.
The S.B. Foot tannery is older than the Red Wing Shoes factory itself. The brand bought the tannery in the 1980s to control nearly the entire production process of the shoes . Almost all the machines are sourced from Italy because that is where the best equipment for this purpose comes from. Most of these have been altered so they can process the thick leather that’s used for work boots. After sorting and shaving, the leather is colored, dyed, oiled, waxed, dried and finished to the exact requirements of a specific type of leather shoe.
It was not just the mechanical supremacy that was a sight to behold. The human elements involved, such as the workers’ loyalty, craftsmanship and the pride they take in their work was something we had not witnessed before. This combination was truly inspiring and for us really defined ‘Minnesota Nice’.' - Red Wing Shoe Company

Inventory Magazinewith their latest online feature 'Q&A Yuketen Fall/Winter 2011 collection'. Their most recent feature takes us inside the Yuketen factory and includes a pleasant sit down with Yuki Matsuda (Founder) discussing the brand, what to expect from the seasons styles, features, and collaborations for FW11.
Was there any source of inspiration behind the FW11 collection that differed from previous seasons? For FW11 I wanted to maintain the overall Yuketen aesthetic of classic American outdoor sporting lifestyle in addition to classic town and country American lifestyles. Of course there are some new style additions for FW11 but overall the feeling is the same as with past seasons.
Does working in Maine feel it has influenced the direction of your brand? We know the region holds a special place in your heart. I love Maine and I always enjoy spending time there. Maine living is like being transported back in time 40 - 50 years because there is an overcoming feeling of freedom which cannot be experienced in a metropolitan area. Maine is removed from the influences of modern city life and there are less people so I feel great freedom when I am in Maine. I love all countryside areas throughout the World. I think I am more at peace when surrounded by nature.
What sorts of challenges arise from collection to collection? Were there any hurdles that you felt you had to overcome for this Fall/Winter collection? Quality control is always a top priority for Yuketen and we continue to strive for the best quality every season. Also, it is very difficult to get leather on time and very difficult to recruit people that can produce Yuketen quality products.
When working on a new collection, do you feel there are boundaries when it comes to your designs? Not really. I have a great team and everybody helps me so I can concentrate on new ideas and have freedom of design.Quality construction and innovative design are elements of the brand that really define it from similar brands out there.
Do you find pushing things forwards can be tough while you are using the production methods of an older time and in a market that is becoming very saturated? No I don't think so. I have ideas cooked up for many shoes that I want to make using the current construction methods we are using. No other brand can match Yuketen's quality because of the amazing people that create Yuketen. I truly believe no other factory possesses the talents that we do. I have a great team and I'm not alone.
Do you have any new styles or updated versions in your upcoming collection that has you feeling really excited? Of course I like all Yuketen styles but Maine Guide Wingtip Boots are my favorite this season.
What has it been like to witness Yuketen grow season after season? How do you decide which retailers will stock your collections? So far so good thanks to the Yuketen team! We still have a long ways to go though. As far as new customers all I can say is that we will choose them very carefully. Yuketen products are very limited so we need to be picky which stores are capable of selling Yuketen. Our first criteria for selecting a retail partner is their ability to stand behind our products 100%. I hope they can be as passionate about Yuketen as I am.
Living in California, is there aspects of your lifestyle, like surfing, that play a major role in the development of your brand? Not much actually, California is my home where I can relax and keep a normal routine. For example, on a normal Sunday I enjoy shopping at the Antique Market and having dim sum lunch. I know it may sound simple but that is what I enjoy most about California living, the simplicity. - Inventory

SAFE IN CAMP A new series of paintings inspired by the community of Refuge Cove.
'They say the best things come out of the blue. Last summer I found myself in a place called Refuge Cove, in Desolation Sound on the BC coast. Boat and floatplane access only, sleeping above the water in a stilted house, relearning the simplicity and beauty of coastal life after living in the city for 15 years. This was a return to my roots, having grown up the child of caretaker parents on a tiny island called Gooch in the Gulf Islands. In the early 1970's a group of educated 'back to the land' 30-somethings, purchased this parcel on West Redonda Island from Norman and Doris Hope. Therein was founded the Refuge Cove Land and Housing Co-op project of 18 member shares. Uncle Norman passed on, and Auntie Doris continued to live in their old cabin in the cove until the mid 1980's as an active member of the co-op. This became a vibrant community consisting of a gas dock, general store/postoffice (both predating the co-op), laundry and showers, a cafe bakery, and a burger stand famous for miles around. Refuge Cove was the hub of Desolation Sound. I was immersed in the culture of this tiny coastal village and the daily life of it's residents and transients, along the boardwalks and around the cove. This community is in decline, it's buildings in a state of beautiful decay. There's a colourful cast of characters that live there and the way they live their lives is almost as apparent in their faces as their eccentricities. When these people, now in their 60's, move on from here, Refuge Cove as it has existed for the last 35+ years will change drastically. In this series of paintings I wanted to document this moment in time, while Refuge Cove is still under the watchful eye of it's co-op keepers. Staying on into October, tourist traffic had all but ceased and the generator had been turned off, the General Store closed. After endless days of sun and bleached wood, the greens and grays started to creep in with the damp. The remaining residents helped each other saw up escaped mill logs, salvaged from the sea. Preparing for the cold months as fresh cedar and woodsmoke mingling on the crisp air. It takes a certain kind of person to exist there year round and few actually do. From what I gather it's pretty bleak in the winters, pretty dark. To survive up there they have to help each other. And in that community lies the basic humanness that rarely exists in the city. Safe in Camp is a saying often used by Don Wicks, a longtime, year round resident. One version is that it comes from hunting trips, when everyone's accounted for, all machines are in working order, and food is being made, everyone has a bunk. Don says it's about memory and it's about friendship.' - Artist Meghan Paterson.
SUMMER 2011 BOAT SHOES It's boating season and we're chalk full of shoes fit for the occasion. Here's a select few of our favourites available in store and online while quantities last.
Well thank you every one who managed to make it out to the Cydwoq trunk show this past Saturday. Especially Rafi for making the journey all the way from Burbank. We had a great time and from the look of the photos, so did several customers and Rafi as well. Of course if you are interested in any of the amazing Cydwoq styles currently in stock, take a sping to our web site! www.gravitypope.com
For years gravitypope customers and gravitypope staff have been huge fans of Cydwoqs outstanding designs and amazing craftsmanship. So needless to say we are extremely excited to present a one night only meeting with Cydwoq designer and founder, Rafi Balouzian!
Based in Burbank California, Rafi will be at gravitypope Vancouver (2205 west 4th ave) November 20 from 6 to 7 pm for an exclusive presentation of the Cydwoq Spring 2011 collection
Rafi Balouzian comes from a long line of master shoe-makers. In the early 1900s, his great-grandfather earned the reputation as a true artisan, crafting custom-made shoes to discriminating customers in Armenia. Years later, he established a factory manufacturing boots for markets throughout the Middle East. Rafi’s father, Hrair Balouzian, spent his teenage years at this factory immersing himself in every facet of shoe-making.
The Cydwoq factory was started in Burbank, California in 1996. The mission then, as now, was to create hand-crafted shoes using the best biological leathers and glues that provided the ultimate walking comfort in unique and timeless designs.
Join us Saturday 6 to 7 pm for some drinks and an amazing opprotunity to meet Rafi and preview the Spring 2011 collection. In addition, we will be offering an exclusive 15% discount off of our current Cydwoq 2010 collections and the opprotunity to pre order spring styles! Here is a little sample of some gravitypope customer favorites from this past season.
This is a gravitypope Vancouver exclusive, so we hope to see you there. Sorry no rain checks.
There's a lot of hype surrounding the upcoming Fall 2010 collaborations coming out of the Vans Vault collections, soon to arrive at Gravitypope. Our friends at Vans have sent us a few samples to get us excited before our full shipments arrive, an enthusiasm well worth sharing with our Gravitypope sneaker lovers.
Out of the Pacific Northwest, American heritage outfitter Filson offers an Era made from their trademark canvas and bridle leather. Paired with a sturdy matching Filson rucksack and a Sk8-Hi version (unfortunately not pictured), you "might as well have the best", as they say over at Filson.
Another heritage classic, Pendleton's Vans Vault collection worked with artist Taka Hayashi to create a Sk8-Hi that blends the brand's trademark Native American inspired patterns with Van's iconic skate shoe. Keep an eye out for a classic slip-on also to hit Gravity Pope's shelves soon...
I can't think of the last time that we were this excited to carry a brand, and I'm certainly not exaggerating. Season after season our staff has been pestering Gravity Pope's buyers to pick up Marc Hare's eponymous line, and now our wishes have finally been granted. For all you sartorial-minded individuals, if you don't know about Mr. Hare and the "shoes you can attach some romance to", then you can enlighten yourselves now. This wholly independent line is now being carried by our wholly independent boutiques, an exclusive to the North American continent!
This season's collection, entitled Miss Your Air, is inspired by the city of Paris. In the words of Mr. Hare, "Paris had an air and it was graceful." Handmade in Tuscany by master Italian craftsmen on Mr.Hare's exclusive British lasts, the materials are only of the finest. Here are a few tidbits about the styles available at Gravitypope, grabbed from Autumn / Winter 2010's look book: Mr. Hare, "HUXLEY high shineâ€(mens), $695.00 CAD (Available in Black only.) The Huxley is cut from a single piece of leather with a single stitch down the back, with a brogue detailing inspired by the hare (not rabbit) of Donnie Darko fame. Mr. Hare, “MILLER scotch grain/high shineâ€(mens), $695.00 CAD (Available in Brown and Black.) Mr. Hare, “WOLFE GALOSH leather/suede oxfordâ€(mens), $675.00 CAD (Available in Black only.) My personal favorite, the Wolfe Galosh is classiness personified. I could dance from dawn 'til dusk in these. Do the tightrope, even?
Okay, so maybe they aren't wearing Mr. Hare, but I'm sure Janelle Monae would if given the chance!
We're 20 years old and the sale is on! To celebrate we are offering 20% off the regular price of this seasons footwear and clothing collections in store and online. Hurry in because quantities are limited.
Belgian designer Bernhard Willhelm's collaboration with Camper Together had a lot of people in the office wondering just how these funky sandals would look on a foot. The designer's signature designs have interpreted recycled and eco-friendly materials into wearable art.
Google didn't offer much for pictures in terms of real people in these shoes, so we took it upon ourselves to do the world a favour. What do you think? (Click on the pictures to zoom in.)
Gravitypope's second season with Zuriick continues with the staple Ake, a sleek alternative to other chunkier soled slip-ons. If you like these, then you should definitely check out some great additions that embody the brand's clean, yet quirky aesthetic. Have I mentioned the insanely affordable price point on these shoes?
Ever wonder how the shoe making process works? These clips from gravitypope favorites Moma and Grenson show just that. It's fascinating just how different the manufacturing mechanisms are between the two, but after getting to know the lines from season-to-season, one can really see how each process makes sense for the overall character of each brand. I'm sure Grenson & Moma fans out there would agree!
For all you football fans out there, Gravity Pope is excited to be carrying Hummel's special edition World Cup sneakers, already on their way to our stores! Take a sneak preview at some of the countries represented before they hit the sales floor in a few weeks. Who will you be cheering for?
In appreciation of all the amazing mothers who have carried the weight of motherhood on their feet, gravitypope will put those bare feet into beautiful shoes.

As a celebration of all great athletes in past Olympic Games, Illustrator Jessica Romberg has made 60 portraits of Olympic Gold Medalists through time.
The exhibition will be held at gravitypope (2205 west 4th ave Vancouver) during the Vancouver Olympic Games; February 2-28, 2010.
About the artist. Born in Sweden and living in Vancouver for the past 3 years, Jessica Romberg is represented in North America by the Marlena Agency (NY) and is part of the Swedish group Stockholm Illustration.
Gentlemen, we have very important footwear news - gravitypope is proud to add Mr. Hare to our list of brands. We have been drooling over these impeccably designed men's shoes since the AW09 collection launched and the SS10 collection 'Hot Steppers' confirmed this is a brand we MUST have.
Mr. Hare, the person, had an impressive career in PR, as a design consultant with Karrimore, was a marketing consultant for a long list of footwear and sport brands plus he opened 2 successful shops in London before starting Mr. Hare the brand - a brand that took 360 days from conception to fruition after a visit to a roadside tapas bar in Spain. Mr. Hare designs his shoes wherever he chooses. Currently handmade in Empoli (Tuscany, Italy), Mr. Hare will be made wherever the greatest manufacturer best suited to the task at hand is located.
For SS10 'Hot Steppers' is a dedication to a selection of Dancehall generals who through their sheer brilliance have given us reason to tear up the dance floors across all continents. Above the thrill of music that moves your physical and emotional state, there is only love in Mr. Hares humble opinion. For SS10, the major emphasis is on the materials. Mr. Hare wanted to create something with the presence of the AW09 'Purest Form' Collection, but with a much greater depth of character. The heart of the collection is made of Vachetta, a vegetable tanned leather that isn't produced in such an environmentally damaging way and the leather retains more of it's natural characteristics. These shoes must be polished regularly with natural bees wax polish and in return they will age and grow with you forming a unique patina and colouring that is distinct and unique. The more love you give them; the more reason they will give you to love them back.
A definite trend in women's shoes for spring 2010 is the platform. One of the most comfortable are the great styles from Chie Mihara. Chie Mihara was born to Japanese parents in Porto Alegre, Brazil in 1968. She lived in Japan from age 18 to 22 and studied fashion design in Kyushyu Design Gakkuin. Dr. Martens has been doing some great collaborations as of late. Previously we have featured the Raf Simons collaboration of the 1461 in a patent white and navy for men. For this season, we had to get the exclusive on the Louise Body collaboration (wren 14 eye boot) featuring a beautiful detail seen on her 'birdies' and 'lacey birdies' wallprints. For those of you familiar with our gravitypope Tailored Goods location in Edmonton, the 'birdie' wallprint adorns our walls and blends seamlessly with the vintage fixtures we have been collecting. Another great style that we have received for fall came from the collaboration of Opening Ceremony and Dr. Martens. The darcie is a heeled version of the iconic 1460 and is a striking option for those who love their heels and the comfort of Dr. Martens.
But Dr. Martens for fall is not all about collaborations. The McMarten tartan is a great plaid for fall and is very impressive on the 1460 last seen below for women. For men, the weston mid height, offers a great option to the classic 1460 and is also lined in the McMartan tartan too.
More Dr. Martens still to come and as always, we have a great collection of the core styles that the brand has become famous for, in store and online at gravitypope.com.

Gravitypope favorite, TN_29, introduces a new collection. Inspired by the original TN_29 archives, HOMAGE shoes are updated versions of classic designs that have special moulded rubber soles. The brightly coloured soles can only be achieved with rubber and in some styles, they have embedded textiles into the soles for that little extra individuality. As a result of this unique moulding process every shoe forms with its own random folds and finely frayed edges. With wear you personal footprint will begin to appear, making the shoes much more individual to you - all part of the Homage philosophy.

Doctor Klaus Martens designed his classic boot in response to an injury that made his standard issue army boots to uncomfortable on his injured foot. With the air padded sole and softer leather, the first ‘Docs’ were designed in 1945. By 1959, sales had grown to the point where marketing internationally had grown feasible. It was at that time that British manufacture R. Griggs Group bought the patent rights to manufacture in the UK. With a slight re-shape of the heel to make them fit better, trademarked yellow stitching and sole named AirWair, the first Dr. Martens boots were released on April 1, 1960. Known as the 1460, the eight eyelets, cherry red, Nappa leather design has become a footwear icon. pascale primary green 13067325 $140 CAD pascale primary red 13064601 $140 CAD pascale primary blue 13066430 $140 CAD 1460 classic 8 hole in white r11821100 $150 CAD

Trippen consists of two rather passionate and adventurous designers, Angela Spieth and Michael Oehler, who decided in 1992 to conceptualize their dissatisfaction with the shoe industry and to design their desires. They started out playing around with wood shoes and ended up in a Berlin art gallery. Their first clog collection was such a success that it was requested by Wolfgang Joop and Claudia Skoda for their shows. Later Fred Sathal, Barbara Bui, Yohji Yamamoto and Perry Ellis put trippen on the catwalk. fence-blk $385 CAD mare-blk $385 CAD omen-gry $400 CAD rubens-blk $355 CAD

TO&CO.’s shoes boast uncompromising quality and developed through years of close collaboration with traditional craftsmen in Marche, Italy as well as other factories through our Europe and Japan. Originally working with these skilled artisans to produce a men’s line manufactured using meticulous production methods, TO&CO. has since applied this expertise to the women’s line to produce collections of unmatched craftsmanship.
TO&CO.’s designs are based heavily on elements often seen in classic British gentlemen’s shoes such as brogue, pinking and flower punching. Not to be confused as stuffy, TO&CO. has also picked up on the attitudes and follies of the fashion-forward men and women of the 1950’s, giving the shoes a playful twist. TO&CO’s style embodies a lightheartedness and modernity, but with a timeless artisan quality drawn from bygone times. 0227-now $500 CAD

When Rose Repetto created her first ballet shoes in her workshop on the rue de la Paix in 1956, she was looking for refinement and elegance. Repetto's famous ballet flats, inspired by demi-pointe dancing shoes, have become legendary all over the world thanks to the fame of their illustrious owners, and to the stitch and return technique defined since the start of the tradition. Today the production of each shoe remains completely traditional and is surrounded with various quality controls.
Designers Tim and Fiona Slack produced their first shoe collection in London. It was totally handmade and very rock and roll. The two designers wanted to expand their collection and make it more accessible. As a result, the AUDLEY brand was begun in 1990. The brand combines the two designers' eclectic design sensibilities with quality leathers and materials and is produced in its own factory. This route of production allows affordable prices while maintaining the highest quality.
