Generally made from PVC, rubber or latex, jelly shoes (or jellies) came to be during WWII when there was a leather shortage in Europe. Hugely popular in the 80's, the jelly shoe has become one of the seasons more popular trends and is probably best represented by the gravitypope favorite, the jelly gladiator sandal by Givenchy in a perfect matte black.
