Gravity Pope Calgary
Building upon Gravity Pope's cult reputation in Edmonton as one of the most unique shoe stores in the province, a second Gravity Pope location was opened in in June 2000 in Calgary on the popular 17th Avenue, known for trendy shopping and entertainment.
The opening of the second Gravity Pope was greatly anticipated and appeased the numerous shoe fans in Calgary who were willing to make the three-hour drive on to find great footwear. The store was very much a 'family' effort. Gravity Pope was still a very small company, so the original shelving in the store was procured from the Fluevog store in Vancouver. Louise Dirks painted the store with help from friends and the store manager Jody Kirk slept in the basement of the store until she found a place to live in Calgary, having moved there from Edmonton.
The grand opening was an event unlike anything in Gravity Pope's history, Jon Fluevog was in attendance along with several local celebrities. The opening of the second store in Calgary was the first step to building the Gravity Pope empire!
