In 1927, Luis Castaner and Tomas Serra founded the company that has grown to become Castaner. In spite of numerous obstacles, the Spanish company continued to develop throughout the first half of the twentieth century. In the 1960s, Castaner evolved into the company that it is today when Yves St. Laurent asked ordered an espadrille with a high-heel, introducing Castaner to the high fashion market.

The company, which began by making peasant shoes, now produces an extensive line of hand-crafted designer footwear that is now sought after all over the world. In addition to the Castaner line of shoes, the Castaner factory continues to manufacture shoes for a variety of high end designers. With boutiques in Japan, Paris and Spain, Castaner has become a brand for the fashion-conscious foot.
