Aigle is the global innovator of rubber footwear. In 1852 company founder Hiram Hutchinson met Charles Goodyear, who had just invented the process of rubber vulcanization. Hutchinson applied the new process to footwear, setting up shop in France. In a country where the majority of field labour was still done wearing clogs, the waterproof boots were wildly popular.
Today Aigle are world renowned makers of waterproof footwear and foul weather sailing gear. They continue to manufacture 95% of their product by hand in France, a process that uses more than 750 tons of natural rubber a year.
