Celebrated British designer Margaret Howell creates high quality clothing based on classic British traditions with a textured, natural look. Since the brand’s launch in 1972, Howell has been established as key member of the UK design community, Howell herself awarded the British honour of a C.B.E. for services to the fashion industry, as well as being made a Royal Designer for Industry by the Royal Society of Arts.

Dedicated to the English heritage of functional design, Howell’s carefully edited collections balance fashion and tradition, each piece made to last. Although she began designing men’s clothing, drawn to its structure, feel, and functionality, Margret Howell found that women wanted those same styles too. Inspired by authenticity in nature, people, and places, as well as materials she chooses, Howell embraces texture in her pieces, enamoured by the feel of hand-woven Harris tweed or the irregular slub of Irish linen. She is passionate about the connection of the UK’s landscape to their fabrics and the skilled craftspeople who weave them, working with specialist heritage manufacturers who bring authentic character to each of her garments.
