gravitypope Edmonton Staff Styles | AW23

We recently caught up with the Edmonton team to have a chat about what they've been up to lately. During our catch-up, they shared some of their favourite pieces currently available in-store, giving us a peek into what's catching their eye these days.

What have you been listening to lately?

Saya Gray released an album earlier this year called QWERTY that is still super interesting to listen to for me. Also I am completely obsessed with Swans’ The Glowing Man. It’s not a new album, but I only recently listened to it for the first time and it’s kind of unbelievable.

How would you describe your style?

My style is black pointy boots and massive jean jackets. I do like wearing snakeskin and leopard prints on occasion – ridiculous, but so sick.

What do you have on your wishlist this season?

New earrings, I think. The Alix D. Reynis Moon Earrings are pretty killer. The gold Maria Black Marco Huggies would also be a nice everyday option.

What is your favourite winter activity?

Usually, I like to stay inside and just listen to music, drink tea, play video games and whatnot. But the winter weather really makes me just want to play guitar out my window.

RAISA:

What shows have you been watching lately?

I’ve been binge-watching all the Netflix shows from Mike Flanagan, but I especially enjoy the Haunting of Hill House. It’s one of my favourite shows of all time.

How would you describe your style?

My style is a mix of different things, I wear whatever I think is cool. I like to mix bold and delicate elements – for example, the Doc Marten Jadons have been a staple in my closet for years. I would ideally pair that with a feminine silhouette and lots of jewelry.

What is on your wishlist this season?

I would love to get a pair of Trippen boots soon.

What is your favourite winter activity?

I like checking out all the different light festivals during the holiday season.

NANCY:

What have you been listening to lately?

I’ve been really attached to 3 artists lately. Charlotte Day Wilson, her ALPHA album that released in 2021, Sarah Kinsley, her EP Ascension, and I cannot forget the iconic Mitski with The Land Is Inhospitable and So Are We, both of which were released this year. They all give such heartfelt and nostalgic vibes for the fall. A plus is blasting them through my headphones.

How would you describe your style?

I don’t even know. It depends on the weather and the ‘aesthetic’ I’m wanting to give off that day. I’m still trying to figure out my personal style so it’s a lot of mix-match, trial and error. Normally I have an idea of what kind of outfit I want to wear.

What is on your wishlist this season?

My current fixation is the Sofie D’Hoore Origin Puffer in the blue-black colour if you couldn’t tell.

What is your favourite winter activity?

Watching a silly movie and eating some popcorn. Or going out for walks, petting dogs along the way and feeding some churros to the neighbourhood cats!

What have you been listening to lately?

The new Mitski album is just fantastic, I’ve been listening to that basically nonstop. I’ve also been listening to a lot of K-pop – there’s lots of genre mixing that groups will incorporate to make a really cool, unique sound.

How would you describe your personal style?

I’m a pretty uniform dresser, I usually just find silhouettes that I enjoy and just interchange between those styles. But overall, I wear a lot of black, straight-legged, cropped pants, and other things that I can easily mix and match.

What is on your wishlist this season?

The Universal Works vest and pants I’m wearing, of course, as well as a wool Danton jacket. I’d also like to pick up some colours of the Beams cashmere beanies.

What is your favourite winter activity?

Normally, I do a lot of reading. My current recommendation is “The Secret History” by Donna Tart; it’s my favourite book of hers. But this year I’d like to go for more walks just listening to music before it gets too cold.

What have you been listening to lately?

I listen to a lot of podcasts, and my current favourites are 60s Songs That Explain the 90s and Jonathan Goldstein’s great show Heavyweight.

How would you describe your personal style?

I’d describe my style as a uniform. I basically wear different iterations of the same couple of silhouettes, but I do like to shake things up with a fun accessory or pop of colour. Lately, I’ve really been into leg warmers.

What do you have on your wishlist this season?

Right now, I have my eye on the tall brown suede Ormeda motorcycle boots.

What is your favourite winter activity?

My family and I have started a new tradition of going to the Christmas Market at Fort Edmonton Park. There are lots of vendors, music, and treats – it’s super fun!

What have you been watching recently?

I just watched the new movie “The Exorcist: Believer” in theatre – I’m a huge horror movie fan, it’s my favourite genre. But my favourite horror movies of all time are the “SAW” franchise, especially the second one. It’s really cool.

What about the music you’ve been listening to?

Lately, I’ve been listening to JMSN, he just dropped a new album. It’s been my go-to, it’s all I’m listening to. It’s kind of R&B, kind of dance music, with a little bit of alternative in there too.

What is your style inspired by?

My mom! She’s the coolest person I know, she knows how to dress. Even what I’m wearing today looks totally like her style. Sometimes I dress a little trendy, but I just wear what I like. I like colours, but I like black too.

What do you have on your wishlist this season?

I’m looking to get the Camper Kiaras with the stitching on the toe, they’re my absolute favourite. I’m also looking for a good pair of new loafers, there’s the burgundy Moma ones that I’ve been wanting.

What is your favourite winter activity?

Skiing. My family and I are big skiers; if you don’t know how to ski in my family, it’s a big problem. They go to the mountains every weekend, and I’ve been skiing since I was like 5.

What have you been listening to lately?

Broadcast always seems to consistently be in my rotation! Other than that, I recently discovered a band called Pram that is my new obsession.

How would you describe your personal style?

I think I’m drawn to clothing that looks one-of-a-kind as well as earth tones. I’m rather visually creative, but not too flashy and I think my style expresses who I am well. Buying second-hand and/or from ethical brands is my go-to.

What is on your wishlist this season?

The Moma loafers I’m currently wearing!

What is your favourite winter activity?

Staying inside!

What have you been watching recently?

I don’t really watch a lot of TV or movies. I’ve mostly been watching baseball, but that just ended so I’ll probably move over to hockey soon.

How would you describe your personal style?

I would say my style is pretty simple. I like mostly neutral-coloured things that can be worn easily together, and I do a lot of layering in the winter. I also have a bunch of things that I’ve collected while travelling over the years that I like to pull out every now and then.

What is on your wishlist this season?

I’ve been looking at a few winter coats that I might pull the trigger on. Maybe one of the Crescent Down Works pieces?

What is your favourite winter activity?

My favourite winter activity is probably playing hockey at the rink. I live across the street from one, so it’s easy to get some people together for a game.

What have you been watching lately?

The stars, the wind, the moon.

What about the music you’re into these days?

A lot of older La Femme, and newer King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard. More specifically the album Psycho Tropical Berlin from the former, and PetroDracogonic Apocalypse from the latter.

What do you have on your wishlist this season?

New textured offerings from Toast, forged gold jewelry from TEN. and Alix D. Reynis, new Marimekko Oiva/Iives and tote prints are probably my top three.

How would you describe your style?

Progressive absurdism, found in ordinary joy.

What is your favourite winter activity?

Every ski hill in Edmonton has a different “cheap” night; I learnt as an adult. It’s really freeing to spend $20, fall down a bit, and celebrate our winters with some pals.

What have you been listening to lately?

My music rotation has literally just been the entire Carly Rae Jepsen discography. Also, my good friends started a band recently which rips, so shout out to Mudcrab. Hopefully, they release their stuff online soon.

What is your style mostly inspired by?

I couldn’t really name one inspiration, but I really like military looks. I feel like as I get older, I’m starting to like cozier, more functional outfits than boots and skinny jeans. My closet is still mostly that, but I’ve slowly tried to branch out into more universal looks.

What do you have on your wishlist from the store?

I’ve been eyeing all of the Filippa K lineup. All of the silhouettes look really clean and since they’re mostly darker they would fit into my wardrobe well.

What is your favourite winter activity?

I don’t really do much during the winter, to be honest. I just hang out with my dog Benny and binge-watch shows. I’ve been meaning to re-watch The Wire, so that’s probably what I’ll be doing this winter.
