Meet Antipast

Created by textile designers Junko Jinushi and Kyoko Kato, Antipast came to be in 1991 out of the creative energy the two felt when collaborating on accessories and costumes for magazines.

With reference to the popular Italian appetizer that sets the anticipation for the meal to come, Antipast also reflects the two Japanese designers desire to carry the fashion world forward.


When was the brand founded?
Antipast was born February of 1991.
 
Why did you start designing?
Just because both of us love fashion. So when we noticed, we had already started our brand.
 
What is your favourite part of the design process?
Imagining our ideal clothes and hitting upon a good idea to realize it.

How do you define quality?
Our priority is to be comfortable and to be made by natural materials.
 
What is special about the production of your brand?
Our original textiles.

 
Who is your favourite author or musician?
author: Philip Kindred Dick, Kurt Vonnegut
musician: Billie Eilish, Milet(a Japanese musician)
 
What do you like to do when you are not working?
Something we can empty our minds, like knitting, sewing small things or making ceramics.
